IRS JUST TOLD ME I CAN'T FILE JOINTLY - MY MARRIAGE ISN'T RECOGNIZED

So I was just told that even though I legally got married on July 25, 2008 in the State of California (pre-prop 8) that I CANNOT file jointly because "marriage is only between one man and one woman". What the hell is the point in marrying people if the people that are married do not have the same benefits and rights? 7  out of 7 found this valuable. Do you?

I live in California. Lets see if my state hears the "No on 8" side of the issue this March 2009. I am sure that California will overturn this "Prop 8" garbage. You can sue whoever discriminated you at the IRS. That is SO wrong what you went through. What the H3LL is the point??? In my eyes you would be recognized as married, in my perspective. Your marriage was a legally-committed civil marriage, the IRS still discriminates you...OMG, I'm so sorry that gay and lesbian couples are in this horrible legal-limbo.

With a new President whose pro-equality I see a better future. I am not sure if many people know about this "Freedom to Marry" day event. I want to see how this turns out.

"What the hell is the point in marrying people if the people that are married do not have the same benefits and rights?"
in massachusetts, same-sex married couples enjoy 25% of benefits and rights that our heterosexual counterparts have because of d.o.m.a., defense of marriage act, by which massachusetts same-sex marriages aren't recognized by federal level. this includes i.n.s., which is a federal agency. here, the only legal practice for same-sex married couples is to file joint state-tax to the state, and separate federal-tax to i.n.s. (separate and unequal)

this is another reason we participated in join-the-impact january 10 "nationwide doma protest", rallied and marched under 16 degree weather, collecting the "one million signatures to repeal doma on an open letter to president barack obama", you can view video and sign at:
