Marriage Equality USA - SLO Chapter is seeking unmarried couples, lesbian, gay, or transgender, who wish to marry, but did not do so during the legal window last Summer and Fall. On Friday, February 13, we will visit the San Luis Obispo County Clerk's Office, with the press in tow, to ask for marriage licenses. We want to introduce San Luis Obispo County to the human stories of these couples, and to show that the ban on gay marriage is hurting real, live people in this community. We will, of course, be denied these licenses at this time. Our goal is to bring the reality of this discrimination once again to the forefront of local attention. And, in case our straight allies are feeling left out, we also invite you to join us as supporters. If you also wish to marry, it would certainly help us to document the inherent unfairness if straight couples were to be granted licenses while LGBT couples watch. If you are one of the fortunate 18,000 same gender couples that did get married legally between June and November of last year, we encourage you to join us for Freedom to Marry Day and thank our wonderful County Clerk-recorder, Julie Rodewald and her staff for being so accommodating to us all during the time that many of us married. This event will take place at NOON on Friday, February 13, in concurrence with many other California counties. Couples should be willing to speak to the media during the event. It will be a non-violent event. Of course you may invite members of your family to observe. Please drop me a note ASAP if you are excited to participate.
