Celebrate Marriage Equality's 5th Anniversary in Massachusetts!

Some of the more vocal advocates have been meeting of the Massachusetts State House steps every May 17th to celebrate the anniversary of the first legal gay marriages in the United States. I'd love to see a huge turn out this year here in Boston, but we could also honor this day in other states where there is no equality by doing the exact same thing. Bring your signs and let your legislators at your own state houses know you want to be treated as equal in all ways, including the right to marry who you love! 4  out of 4 found this valuable. We had 5000 people at Government Center on November 15. We should be able to get thousands to the State House steps on May 17. As the one state with 5 years of experience in equality, I think it is incumbent upon us to show that the fears and lies of the religious right are unfounded BS. That the only result of marriage equality is increased happiness and family security. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I also think that it is our duty to show the public that 5 years of equality hasn't hurt us at all. We need to make Boston the rally point it is, and May 17th seems to be the best time to do that. It is a Sunday, so lots of people will be able to attend, and although the legislators may not be in office on that day I'm sure they'll pick up a newspaper and see what we have been up to.

The bottom line is that if we don't start defending what we now have not only are our rights at stake we ensure that other smaller voices in other areas of the country not so LGBT friendly will be less effective.
