Can we have a March?
Jun 16 2009, 3:35 AM EDT
Can we have a March like Martin Luther King Jr did when JFK promised to the blacks before elected then ignore them after elected? We need a leader or leaders to walk us all from all states to DC to show this administrations that we are not going to go away just simply because you ignore us or try to say you have many things in hands while repeal DADT and DOMA are not really difficult at all. I would like to see all LGBTs coming in millions to overwhelm the DC. I know it's a dream, but aren't we fed up enough yet for the promises that are being broken all along? 6 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

Ianpuen you are so right brother! We need to be in the streets, not just now and then but all the time till we get our rights. WE need to be on TV none stop and in all the newspapers. We should take our lessons from groups before us that won there rights. I’m not only fighting for the right to marry in this country but also fighting to get the uniting families act passed and to have the HIV ban fully lifted. President jack ass signed it but immigration is still enforcing it. Just to let everyone know I’m married in Canada a country the sees us as equals. Join the impact lets go no more sitting on our hands, the HRC and Immigration equ. Only cares about our money nothing more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

It’s too bad that I can’t stay over night; I have to drive down from New York and drive back that same day. I have a dog and no one to take care of her. My husband is in Canada. You know we should be having something like this every month, not only in DC but let’s say lower NYC during the week that would get the point across. You would shut down NYC. That’s what we need to do. Also this march should be taking place at the same time in 3 other locations in this country for people that can’t make it to DC. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Oh I didn't know we would have one in October. I am on. Do you think we would be able to get like a million LGBTs there at least?

Then should we try next Summer. Is it ok to give this admistration a year to see they are really serious about equal rights? I think one year is fair and enough for the President Obama to start to do something for basic equal rights.

Yes, it is sad that the organizations that claim they are taking our money in a effort to help us achieve civil rights are not trying to promote this march..... instead it is Cleve Jones ( the AIDS Quilt organizer) and a couple of his friends putting this together. Check out the website http://www.NationalEqualityMarch.com and twitter at http://twitter.com/NtlEQMarch. See you at the march.

I agree with you AZ4equality, it's funny how much money they raise through pride festivals and fund raisers, but we don't get to see what the money is spent on. It's time people like you and I get envolved in the grassroots organizations and awaken the sleepy souls. It's time we challenge and motivate our own. The march is a great start, PRIDE MONTH- personally I think every state should take a month of their own and make it so we have a march and a festival every month of every year so that they don't confine us as they do our civil rights.

Pink Panther you are right we need to fully wake people up and that’s gay people starting at lets say age 15 and up. I know as a kid all I wanted to do was party and get laid, but we need to wake them up.I love Join the Impact but they should be doing more! More protests more in the streets, more in newspapers and TV. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I agree with a lot of ideas here, especially from ponyboy865, AZ4equality, and Pink Panther revolt. I've been a part of grass roots events since 1981 and have seen the power they've had in the Phoenix Community. One of many great benefits is getting to at least have a say in where the money goes. One of the problems of our national history is ourselves. We are human first, raised with oportunism, competiveness, jealousy, and righteous rage reguardless of any progress. Unity starts here. For every withdrawn, non participating member of this site is a potential participant you want to kick start. One person missing. It would be great to pay some attention to the support waiting under our noses. If it's a fight we working at---how about Harvey Milk who always said. 'I want to recruit you today?"--not people need to be more active with no engergy put toward your own. With over an apparent 1,000 members, there are about 200 of us pontificating intellect when so many perfectly good soldiers just want to know how to communicate with a 'movement that they belong to as well. Let's attract our own with more enthusiasm and less grand standing.

FYI to silique, I have an interesting letter from John McCain about his take on gay marriage and hate crimes, written a couple of years ago. I will be happy to share it with you. (Kyl never responds to my letters). M

Oh, I wouldn't miss it! I added a couple of posts that offended some people and I am paying some dues..which I deserve. I have lost a desire to be right: I'd rather be happy. I believe in the October march completely! I was yammering about most problems are an inside job even among masses, not just as individuals.

There is a march being planned for Oct 10-11 in DC. Go to the Face book page:On October 10-11, we'll march on the National Mall with one simple demand: Full equality in all matters governed by civil law. In all 50 states. Now. I hope you'll volunteer with me to make this happen, because it will take all of us to organize this march. We need people all over the country - in all 435 Congressional districts. We'll lay the groundwork for an unstoppable national movement...because October 11 is just the beginning. Please take a moment to forward this message to your friends, and ask them to sign up at http://nationalequalitymarch.com. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

After the slander from the Obama Administration regarding the defense of DOMA, we not only need a march - we need what looks like the demonstrations of Iran - AFTER ALL WE TOO ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR FREEDOM. I would like to see Caravans coming from every corner of every state in our nation. I would like to see back country roads and city streets swarmed with caravans of people coming to DC.It is NOT too much to hope for - We just need to do it. Join the Impace, Human Rights Campaigns, Soul Force and all the other major GLBT organizations, need to get together to spearhead it. Call a meeting - pick a date - get necessary permits - etc etc. IF IRAN COULD DO IT VIRTUALLY OVERNIGHT - WHY CAN'T A GREAT COUNTRY LIKE OURS PLAN IT FOR OCTOBER IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE HRC DINNER AND NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Yes, We must do it! I have already bought my airline tickets. Im a veteran of the last two Marches. They were transformational experiences...And 15 years ago!The new generation needs the experience of placing their bodies on the line. From there, new lines will be crossed into the future. However, im concerned that the traffic is so lite on this issue. Also, shouldn't this web site have a major banner of endorsement!? Lastly, we did have a million at the 97 March. but the government denied us an official count. I was there and know what a million people look like!

Hello All! I'm signing in from Bedford, MA. I'm SO on board with attending the National Equality March this October! http://www.nationalequalitymarch.com . I participated in the 1978 and the 1987 Marches, and they were powerful and effective events borne out of grass-roots mobilization. I encourage all LGBT peers and Allies to get to D. C. This October! Suggestions: In '87, grass-roots organizers in New England arranged for the charter of an entire AMTRAK to deliver LGBT protesters from Boston & New York to D. C. Perhaps a similar effort can be duplicated in your area? Get together with others in your locality & Look into it. Lodging in Washington Area? To get the maximum numbers possible, looking beyond professional lodging sources is definitely a way to go. Remeber: not everyone who may want to go to D. C. and Stay at least overnight will have the funds to afford a D. C. hotel room. In '87, there was a lot of house-guesting going on. Any one in D. C. Interested in getting House-guesting and room-sharing? Sounds like its time to use our Social Networks to make this happen. Remember, this year's march is US; not to be "Brought To Us By (insert corporation of choice here)" . WE ARE THIS MARCH; WE cn make it happen by Organizing and working together! Peace, Pleasure, and the Pursuit of Happiness! 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
