JOIN THE IMPACT - WHERE ARE YOU? WE WANT TO PROTEST!!!
Nov 4 2009, 11:29 AM EST
This morning I woke up and called my US representatives, emailed and sent messages to friends and family telling them that the more we allow people to vote against my equal rights - the more my future family is affected. My own mother is a bigot and supports gay apartheid - she can't event think past her bigotry to see what she is doing to me, her son and her future grandchildren.Join the Impact - I am going to post a protest outside a Catholic church here in New York City for this Sunday to the New York City page. Please - if you are listening - spread the word for others to do the same. We can't just rally on street corners anymore - we have to take the fight in numbers to the oppresors! Do you find this valuable?

In fact, the vast majority of dollars collected were from religious organizations using tax exempt dollars - WRONG!!! We protested, marched, & sang outside the local Catholic church this past Sunday. I consider the right to private worship very important in terms of American freedoms. I had to ponder over my decision to do so. I am a churchgoer myself. But when the church's purpose is political pressure, rather than spiritual strengthening, it becomes, like any other political group, an institution which can be voted on & campaigned against.. If we don't we wil see our rights taken away, as they were here in Maine. We took the high road in our campaign, The opposition used fear tactics against homosexuality in general. The Catholic church & other religious groups signed the check. That argument now needs to be publicagainst those religious institutions which advocate abolishing LGBT rights; forget reverencing their spiritual stature. They lost it in the mudslinging. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

What happened in Maine and California is beyond tragic, and the fact that tax exempt money is being used to fund such efforts is a crime, in my opinion, not to mention unconstitutional. There is a concerted, wll-funded effort to overturn same-sex marriage, and they are taking pride and strength in what happened in Maine. The best way to overcome the forces that are out to limit your freedom is to stand your ground. That is why I am asking couples who are considering marriage to join me in New Hampshire on January 1st, the first day that same-sex marriage will be allowed in that State. We are going to have a celebration of marriage equality with LEGAL marriages being performed and a reception with dinner and dancing to follow. This event is an affordable way for same-sex couples to legally marry, make history by being amongst the first couples to wed on the first day the law is enacted in New Hampshire, and to start the new year by publically declaring their love while standing up for their rights at such a legislatively critical time in gay history. The more couples who legally marry and return to their own States, the sooner we will see those States allow gay marriage. Each couple that returns to their States is a potential lawsuit, as couples could sue to have their out-of-State licenses recognized. At some point, it is not financially feasible for States take on these suits, which increases the chance that they will opt to recognize the marriages instead. It always seems to come down to money, doesn't it. But hey, if that's what will finally give people equality, so be it. I encourage everyone to start 2010 off with joy, love and equality. Join us in NH, and keep up the good fight.
